Dear family,
Anxiety is a heavy burden, one that can cloud our thoughts and drain our strength. It often whispers lies that we are alone, that the future is uncertain, or that we must bear our struggles alone. But as Catholics, we are never truly alone—our Lord walks with us, ready to comfort and guide us.
God Knows Your Struggles
In moments of distress, it’s easy to feel as though no one understands the depth of our fears. Yet Scripture reassures us:
"Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)
God does not dismiss your worries. He sees every tear, knows every restless night, and understands your heart in a way no one else can. Jesus Himself experienced deep anguish in the Garden of Gethsemane, sweating drops of blood in His agony (Luke 22:44). He knows what it means to be afraid, and He stands ready to strengthen you.
The Power of Surrender
One of the hardest but most freeing things we can do in times of anxiety is to surrender to God. This does not mean pretending that fear doesn’t exist, but rather offering it to Him in trust. A simple prayer—"Jesus, I trust in You"—can be a powerful weapon against anxious thoughts.
Anxiety often grows when we try to control what is beyond our power. But God, who holds the universe, also holds your future. When we surrender our fears to Him, we allow His grace to work in our hearts.
If you haven't already, consider incorporating the Surrender Novena into your daily prayer life. Fr. Don Dolindo's Surrender Novena Prayer saved me a few years ago. You can grab a copy HERE
Finding Refuge in Prayer
When anxiety strikes, prayer is our refuge. The Psalms are filled with cries of distress, yet they always return to trust in God:
"When I am afraid, I put my trust in You." (Psalm 56:3)
Pray honestly. Tell God how you feel. Imagine resting in His arms, just as a child finds peace in a loving parent’s embrace. The Rosary, too, can be a beautiful source of calm, helping to steady the mind and refocus the heart on Christ.
God Works Through Others
God often brings comfort through the people He places in our lives. Seeking support from a trusted friend, spiritual director, or Catholic counselor can be a means of grace. The Church is a family, and we are not meant to carry our burdens alone.
If anxiety is overwhelming, do not be afraid to seek both spiritual and practical help. Just as we would seek medical care for a physical illness, it is wise and good to seek help for our mental and emotional well-being.
Rest in His Promises
No matter how anxious you feel, God's love remains constant. His promises never fail:
"Do not be afraid, for I am with you." (Isaiah 41:10)
Let these words be your anchor. The storms of anxiety may come, but you are never alone. God walks with you, holds you, and will never abandon you.
May you find peace in His presence, strength in His promises, and rest in His love.
Jesus, I trust in You.
