WHO IS SERVANT OF GOD RHODA WISE?

Rhoda Wise (1888–1948) was an American Catholic mystic and laywoman from Canton, Ohio, who is considered a "Servant of God" by the Catholic Church, which is the first step toward possible canonization as a saint. Known for her deep spirituality, Wise experienced mystical phenomena such as visions of Jesus and St. Thérèse of Lisieux, as well as stigmata, which are bodily wounds corresponding to those of Christ's crucifixion.

She gained a reputation as a healer and spiritual advisor, attracting numerous visitors seeking her prayers and guidance. Many believed her prayers led to miraculous healings, including the healing of Mother Angelica, who later founded the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). Wise’s home became a place of pilgrimage for those seeking physical and spiritual healing.

Rhoda Wise's cause for canonization was officially opened by the Diocese of Youngstown in 2016.

    SOME OF THE REPORTED MIRACLES

Several reported miracles are associated with Rhoda Wise.  Here are some notable examples:

    1. Mother Angelica's Healing

One of the most well-known miracles attributed to Rhoda Wise is the healing of Rita Rizzo, who later became Mother Angelica, the founder of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN). As a young woman, Rizzo suffered from a painful stomach ailment diagnosed as a prolapse of the stomach, for which there was no effective medical treatment. In 1943, at the age of 19, Rizzo visited Rhoda Wise and began a novena (a series of prayers) to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, guided by Wise. During the novena, Rizzo experienced a sudden and complete healing of her condition. This event profoundly impacted her spiritual life and led her to join religious life, eventually founding EWTN, which became a global Catholic media network.

    2. Healing of Thomas Lafferty

Thomas Lafferty, a young boy from Ohio, was diagnosed with a severe bone disease that had left him crippled and in great pain. His parents took him to visit Rhoda Wise, who prayed for his healing. Following the visit, Lafferty's condition reportedly improved dramatically, and he began to walk again without the aid of braces or crutches, which he had previously required.

    3. Healing of Sr. Mary Thomas

Another notable healing attributed to Rhoda Wise involves Sr. Mary Thomas, a nun from Canton, Ohio, who suffered from multiple sclerosis and was confined to a wheelchair. After visiting Wise and participating in prayers, Sr. Mary Thomas was said to have experienced a complete recovery and was able to walk again, much to the astonishment of her doctors and fellow religious sisters.

    4. Personal Healings and Conversions

Rhoda Wise was known for praying with and for many people who came to her home seeking healing or spiritual guidance. Numerous visitors reported miraculous recoveries from a variety of illnesses, including cancer, arthritis, blindness, and other severe conditions. Additionally, many people reported deep spiritual conversions or renewals after meeting her, including those who had lapsed from their faith or were struggling with doubt.

    5. Stigmata and Other Mystical Phenomena

Although not considered a miracle for others, Rhoda Wise herself was believed to have received the stigmata — wounds resembling those of Christ's crucifixion — in 1939. She also reported experiencing visions of Jesus and St. Thérèse of Lisieux, which were accompanied by physical and spiritual phenomena witnessed by others.

These reported miracles and spiritual phenomena contributed to Rhoda Wise's reputation for holiness and the opening of her cause for canonization in 2016. For these events to be officially recognized as miracles by the Catholic Church, they must undergo rigorous investigation and validation by the Church authorities.

    HEALING WATER

The "healing water" from Rhoda Wise's home in Canton, Ohio, is associated with reports of miraculous healings and blessings that occurred after people used water from a specific area of her house. This tradition began in 1939, when Rhoda Wise believed she had received a miraculous sign.

    Origin of the Healing Water

According to accounts, Rhoda Wise experienced a series of visions and mystical phenomena, including stigmata, in the late 1930s. In May 1939, she had a vision in which Jesus appeared to her and instructed her to use a jar to collect water from her home's cistern. Rhoda was told that anyone who used the water with faith would be blessed. Soon after, people began to visit her home to receive this water, believing in its healing properties.

    Reported Miracles and Healings

The water from Rhoda Wise's cistern became an object of devotion, and many people reported physical and spiritual healings. These healings included the alleviation of pain, recovery from illness, and other health improvements. Visitors often took bottles of water home, and some even returned to report their cures or improvements, attributing them to the faith and the water's use.

Some examples of reported healings include:

      • Recovery from illness: Visitors who were suffering from various ailments, such as cancer, arthritis, and other conditions, reported experiencing relief or full recovery after using the water.
      • Spiritual conversions: Many people who came to Rhoda’s home seeking healing reported experiencing a profound sense of peace, spiritual renewal, or conversion.
      • Continued Pilgrimage and Devotion

Even after Rhoda Wise's death in 1948, her home has remained a place of pilgrimage. The water is still drawn from the same location and given to visitors who come in faith, hoping for healing or blessings. Her home, known as the "Rhoda Wise House," is managed by a group of volunteers, and visitors can come to pray, learn about her life, and receive the water.

        Significance to the Catholic Church

      • The Church has acknowledged the devotion and faith of those who visit Rhoda Wise's home and continues to investigate her life and the reported miracles as part of her canonization process.

This healing water symbolizes the faith and hope people have placed in Rhoda Wise’s intercession and the spiritual significance attributed to her mystical experiences.

      ---HELP IF YOU CAN----

Here is a post, from a recipient of what we do,.

L**** and I were one of the precipitants of This mission. She is right. My parking was 9 per day for 3 months. Then on top of that food cost me approximately 15 per day. That was cheap - I got vouchers for $5.00 per meal. So somedays I did not eat or made meals last for more then one meal. Had to. Parking was $810. Food was $1,300. Then you have normal household bills and I have 3 animals I had to pay to have people come and take care of them. At first I had my dog in the Kennel for 1/2 the time. That was about 500. It is VERY expensive to have a sick child. That was Just ONE hospital stay. We have had numerous ones. Some only a few days, some a week or two. Without their help we would of gone fully under!

From providing necessary funds to actually having families stay with us...we DO what we say we do!
