Let's get started, shall we?
Winter in Upstate NY is rough, we aren't too far away from the Canadian border.
Our growing season is only about 4 months. For a true gardener that is sheer torture.
So, I started my new adventure...growing indoors.
My husband started calling me "The Indoor Homesteader", though we have a 130 acre farm in the frigid North.
I was initially shocked by a the number of things I could actually grow in my home!
You really don't need a large area. Kitchen counter, sunny window sill, you can even grow in a closet! I've done it all :)
I initially created a plan based around our families eating habits.
Now, to be realistic, you're not going to be able to grow certain things in the house.
Want potatoes, pumpkins, and sunflowers? Not going to happen...I have tried it.
If you want lettuce, beets, radishes, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, microgreens, etc...I can show you how!
But...we need to make a plan!
If your family doesn't eat beets, don't grow them! If they love a salad a few times per week...lets grow it!
Once you have a plan in place...even if it’s just a rough idea of what you want to grow...then it’s easier to take a look at other factors like space.Â
The next thing to consider is lighting, containers, etc.
Don't worry, it's less expensive than what you're probably thinking and I will get to everything you need to know to be successful ♡
